LOS ANGELES CRIME REPORT
A shooting took place at 9 am on Thursday, February 1st at Salvador Castro Middle School in Los Angeles. Immediately upon receiving of shots fired, authorities locked the entire school down as protocol.
The shooting resulted in a 12-year-old girl being arrested and was booked on suspicion of negligent discharge of a firearm. She reportedly told a classmate the gun in her backpack “accidentally went off.” Two students were left hospitalized and one was left in critical condition.
A 15-year-old boy was hit in the back of his skull, another 15-year-old girl was shot in her wrist, and two other children and an administrator sustained minor injuries resulting in abrasions. The boy who was struck in the temple was deemed “extremely lucky” by his overseeing physician Dr. Aaron Strumwasser of the USC Medical Center. Parents were eager to reunite with their children upon hearing of the incident.
Some parents expressed to the media that metal detectors should be installed to prevent any similar situations from occurring.
The Los Angeles School Police Department released a statement saying that their immediate focus will be on the student body of the school and those injured. They are conducting a very thorough investigation and have assured parents that they will get to the bottom of the matter in order to ensure the safety of the students in every California school.
