May 16th, 2017: Two alleged Gardena burglary suspects were shot and wounded by police officers from the Gardena Police Department. They crashed into another sedan in an attempt to flee the scene.
The two Gardena burglary suspects were reportedly seen invading a resident's home in north Torrance who eventually chased them off. The pair then sped away in car that was later seen driving around Gardena. Officers of the Gardena Police Department chased the suspects into South Los Angeles until the men crashed into a parked car on the corner of 108th and Figueroa at about noon. Only after one of the men emerged from the car with a visible gun in hand is when police officers took action and fired five fun shots. One of the Gardena burglary suspects was wounded and taken to a nearby hospital whose condition is not known at this moment in time while the other suffered minor cuts.
It is not only disturbing for the residents of Torrance but also for the residents of Gardena due to this situation becoming the second officer-related shooting in the same month. On April 30th, Gardena police officers were in pursuit of Larry Priestman Laneheart, age 27, after he was spotted fleeing the scene of a disturbance on 160th and Denker Avenue. Laneheart later crashed at the corner of Marine and Western Avenue in the city of Gardena. He was shot as a result of reaching back into his vehicle and is recovering from his sustained injuries.
