At 11:30 a.m. on Sunday July 9th, officers responded to a call regarding a man who was armed with a gun in North Hollywood. The male, Jose Montes Vasquez, was also allegedly suicidal and had nestled himself behind a wall on the corner of Burbank Boulevard and Satsuma Avenue. The officers were persistent in attempting to lure him out to safety but ultimately the man refused to comply.
A call was eventually made to LAPD SWAT and LAPD Sergeant. Francisco Albarran said that they “heard one gunshot” while they attempted to set up their mobile command post.
Vasquez died on the scene from a self-inflicted wound and his weapon was recovered. The man was 54 years of age and no other information is known at the moment.
